As Houstonians, we know how to show up for one another—whether it’s after a storm, at a local fundraiser, or during the busy holiday rush. And this season is the perfect time to make choices that make a difference. From recycling smarter to donating thoughtfully, there are so many simple ways to give back and help our city shine a little brighter. 🎄🌎
1
Holiday Hope Toy Drive + Volunteer
Kids’ Meals
It’s not too late to Host a Toy Drive in your local community or among your circle. The day to schedule delivery of toys to Kids’ Meals is actually today Dec 5th, so that might be tricky, however, you can also volunteer packing meals for children. It’s a great way to work as a family to help less fortunate children starting this this season and beyond.
Kids ages 8 and above are welcome to volunteer; all volunteers under 18 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Recycle Your Holiday Lights
Houston Zoo
In its 6th year! Help save animals in the wild and recycle your old or broken holiday string lights at the Zoo’s main entrance until January 5, 2025. Over the past 6 years, 35,831 lbs of holiday lights have been recycled at the Zoo — that’s the weight of six female Asian elephants! Just by attending Zoo Lights, you are helping save animals in the wild.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree
Houston
Houston has the best parks and beautiful landscaping. Help reduce landfill waste and contribute to creating valuable mulch and compost for parks, gardens, and other landscaping projects in the city.
Be sure to remove all tinsel, lights, and stands before dropping off a tree at a designated drop-off location from December 26 to January 31. Do not drop off flocked trees.
Here’s a guide to further help you, along with drop-off sites around Houston!

As we step into the holiday season, let’s remember that even the smallest choices—recycling a little more, wasting a little less, and giving back where we can—create a ripple of good across our Houston community. Together, we can spread holiday cheer in a way that’s kind to our neighbors and to our planet. 🎁♻️💛
